Practice Results

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden led the way in the only practice session at the Milwaukee Mile in West Alis, Wisconsin ahead of the Snap-On INDYCAR Weekend. Newgarden, who has yet to finish on the podium at the 1.015-mile in seven previous starts, recorded a best lap of 159.430 mph (22.9191 seconds) during the 90-minute session on Friday afternoon.

Dale Coyne Racing rookie Dennis Hauger was best among the Hondas behind Newgarden’s Chevrolet, finishing .0075 of a second back of his best lap in second. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex {Palou was third as he looks to clinch his fourth consecutive NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship during this weekend’s doubleheader, the last races before next Sunday’s season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Palou leads Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood by 99 points with a trio of races to go in the 2026 season.

A pair of Chevrolets would close out the Top Five after the Honda duo, with Newgarden’s teammate David Malukas and Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Rinus VeeKay in fourth and fifth.

Less than 20 minutes into the session, Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel had a crash in Turn 2 after snapping loose. He was released from the infield medical center shortly after. Just over an hour later, the winner of the last NTT INDYCAR SERIES race and last year’s race at Milwaukee collided.

Kirkwood and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Christian Rasmussen made contact in Turn 3, resulting in major damage to both cars. Both Kirkwood and Rasmussen were released from the care center.

While those incidents would impede Friday’s session, no other major on-track issues occurred.

Grid Penalties announced for McLaughlin, Malukas, Palou, VeeKay and Robb following engine changes

INDYCAR Officiating has announced nine-position starting grid penalties for the entries of Nos. 3 and 12 Team Penske, No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing and Nos. 76 and 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing for unapproved engine changes following the race on the Streets of Washington, D.C., Sunday, Aug. 23.
The entries were in violation of:

Rule 16.1.2.3.2. A fifth (5th) Engine is eligible to earn Engine Manufacturer points and will be
considered an Approved Engine Change-Out if a Full Season Entrant has completed the Full
Season Entrant Engine Mileage with its first four (4) Engines. Otherwise, a fifth (5th) or more
Engine does not earn Engine Manufacturer points and will be considered an Unapproved Engine
Change-Out.

According to Rule 16.1.6.1.2., the penalty is a six-position starting grid penalty on road and
street course events and nine positions at oval events and will be served at the series’ next
event, which is the Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250, Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Milwaukee Mile.
