Practice 2 Results Combined Results Qualifying Groups
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Louis Foster ended Practice 2 as the fastest driver of the weekend the inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham.
The sophomore driver notched a best lap of 1m14.1793 (101.915 mph) on the new, 2.19-mile, 12-turn street circuit in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada suburb of Markham.
Finishing .014 of a second back was Arlington pole sitter Marcus Ericsson of Andretti Global, himself a three-time winner on street circuits, including the 2021 race at Nashville.
After the 1-2 for Honda was the Chevrolet-powered Team Penske machine of David Malukas, who is looking for his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory in his 75th start. Ericsson’s teammate Kyle Kirkwood, winner on five street course races (most recently Arlington in March) was fourth and Foster’s teammate Mick Schumacher led the way for the rookies in fifth.
The “all-skate” portion of Saturday afternoon’s practice was brought to an early halt when Andretti Global’s Will Power got wide in Turn 10 and made heavy contact with the outside tire barrier in Turn 10. Power’s impact heavily damaged the right-front as well as both front and rear wings of his machine. He was quickly seen and released from the INDYCAR Medical Center but the No 26 will undergo extensive repairs ahead of qualifying this evening.
After leading opening practice this morning, NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader Alex Palou finished seventh in his Chip Ganassi Racing entry.
During the late stages of running for Group 2, A.J. Foyt Racing’s Caio Collet made contact with the outside wall in Turn 8, ending with a moderate impact. Collet was ninth at session’s end but his team will have repairs to do ahead of qualifying.
Power and Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong were the only drivers to not post a quicker time from their best lap in the opening session.
