2026 OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland Results

After starting in second, Alex Palou took command of the OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland following the first round of pit stops and held on for a dominant win, beating pole sitter Felix Rosenqvist of Meyer Shank Racing by 4.1167 seconds.

Palou, who led a race-high 60 of 110 laps, including the final 24, extends his NTT INDYCAR SERIES points lead to 110 points over Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood with five races to go in the 18-race campaign.

Earning his third podium of 2026 is Kirkwood’s teammate Will Power, who had won the last two races on the 1.964-mile, 12-turn Oregon road course.

Palou notches his sixth victory of 2026 and ties Gordon Johncock for 17th all-time with 25 victories. He also earned Chip Ganassi Racing their 151st INDYCAR win as an organization. It is Palou’s third win at Portland International Raceway (2021 and 2023) and the fourth by CGR at the permanent road course.

The Spaniard also joins Mario Andretti (1966-1967) and Sebastien Bourdais (2004-2007) as the only drivers in series history with six or more victories in consecutive seasons. He also ties Power (2019, 2024-2025), Michael Andretti (1990-1992) and Al Unser Jr. (1984, 1994-1995) as three-time Portland winners.

Finishing second to Palou for a second time in 2026 after starting on the pole (Long Beach), Rosenqvist has another podium finish to go along with his Indianapolis 500 victory.

Behind the Honda podium sweep was the Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet of Rinus VeeKay, who matches his best finish of 2026 (Mid-Ohio. Kirkwood rounds out the Top Five, with teammate Marcus Ericsson giving Andretti Global three cars in the first half-dozen spots.

After starting ninth, Dale Coyne Racing’s Dennis Hauger finished 13th, best among the rookies in the field. He now holds a 27-point lead over A.J. Foyt Racing’s Caio Collet in the Rookie of the Year standings. Despite starting last, Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard charged his way to ninth.

Rosenqvist pulled away from Palou at the start of the race, with Ericsson charging past teammate Power for third. Four laps later, Ericsson would use a similar maneuver to make it up to second around Palou.

Following a relatively clean start, Graham Rahal brought out the first caution of the afternoon when the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver locked up and slid off track into the inside tire barriers near Turn 12.

Lundgaard would continue his charge up the running order upon the Lap 10 restart. Rosenqvist held the lead until his first pit stop of the afternoon on Lap 32. Palou would go a lap further and once again use the undercut to his advantage.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong would fall out of the race with engine issues on Lap 34.

On Lap 37, Josef Newgarden made his second pit stop after he led a group of drivers onto pit lane during the caution. Palou stretched the alternate tires all the way to Lap 57, at which point he switched to used primary tires for the last pair of stints on the afternoon.

Power looked to be placing himself in prime contention for victory as the final round of stops. That hope became undone after he went an extra lap on his penultimate stint in part after running behind the lapped JHR car of Sting Ray Robb.

Although Palou leapfrogged Rosenqvist, the drivers who qualified 1-2-3 yesterday landed on the podium in Sunday’s race.

The lead changed hands nine times between Rosenqvist, Palou, Power and Newgarden. Slowed by the singular caution at Lap 7, the race was run with an average speed of 112.661 mph.

Next weekend, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES heads north of the border for its second inaugural street course race of 2026 and its lone stop outside the United States of America. Opening practice for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, August 14 at the 2.1-mile, 12-turn street circuit in Canada (FS2).

On Saturday, August 15-second practice is slated for 10:00 a.m. ET (FS2), with three-round, knockout qualifying at 2:25 p.m. ET (FS1).
