XPEL Grand Prix at Road America Results
Despite an opening lap collision, Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard worked his way back through the field to win Sunday’s XPEL Grand Prix at Road America. Lundgaard started 12th and fell back to the end of the 25-car grid after the incident.
Lundgaard’s pace on permanent road courses was shown again as he would charge back through the field, leading seven laps (including the last four) and win Sunday’s 55-lap race. It is Lundgaard’s second win of 2026 (IMS Road Course) and third of his INDYCAR career. He is the 143rd driver in series history to win at least three races in his career.
Giving Chevrolet engines another 1-2 finish was Team Penske’s David Malukas, as today’s outside pole sitter notches a third runner-up finish in 2026 but is still in search of his first INDYCAR win. Andretti Global’s Will Power led the way for Honda and earned his second podium finish of 2026.
Despite multiple issues on pit road, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou rallied to end the day fourth. Palou started on the pole for the fifth consecutive race and led the first 13 laps. He now holds a 62-point lead over Malukas in the standings with eight races to go in the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist led a race-high 18 laps after starting fourth and would finish eighth.

After starting a career-best eighth, A.J. Foyt Racing’s Caio Collet would finish 16th in his first INDYCAR start at Road America. Dale Coyne Racing’s Dennis Hauger still leads the Rookie of the Year standings by 30 over Collet and 41 over Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Mick Schumacher.
Recap
The opening lap of the race featured just one incident of note. During the run down the front straightaway, Lundgaard made contact with Scott Dixon, forcing the Arrow McLaren driver to pit lane for an early wing replacement.
During the first round of pit stops, Romain Grosjean left pit lane with an unsecured left-rear wheel. Entering Turn 5, Grosjean’s wheel came off and sent the Dale Coyne Racing entry into a spin and prompting the first caution of the day.
As the caution light was displayed, Rosenqvist exited pit road ahead of Palou, who stopped a lap earlier, thereby claiming the lead of the race.
Despite Rosenqvist switching from the harder primary tires and Palou switching onto the primary tires, Rosenqvist was able to hang onto the lead. On Lap 29, Palou made his second pit stop but was penalized after speeding on pit lane and forced to serve a drive-through penalty.

Another hybrid failure plagued Ed Carpenter Racing when Christian Rasmussen stalled on the front straightaway and brought out the second caution of the day. Following the Lap 33 restart, contact between Grosjean and Marcus Ericsson led to a debris caution.
On Lap 49, Armstrong took over the lead and was primed to earn his first INDYCAR victory. With three laps remaining, the Honda engine in Armstrong’s Meyer Shank Racing entry let go and he would finish 25th. The caution was brought out and the stage was set for another last-lap battle for the win.
While teammate Nolan Siegel spun in Turn 5, Lundgaard was able to pull away. Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden was assessed a 30-second time penalty for the incident and fell to 22nd in the running order after initially ending the day ninth.
Further back, Graham Rahal made contact with Will Power, sending the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver spinning into the gravel trap inside Turn 13.
Lundgaard coasted to victory from there as the race would finish under caution. Five caution flags over 12 laps slowed the race to a 119.220 mph average speed. The lead was exchanged six times between five drivers.
