By the end of Tuesday’s on-track time, it would be the “one-off” or Indianapolis 500-only entries leading the way during the first of a two-day Open Test. For the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, the 33-car field will prepare for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 24.
The afternoon session, particularly later in the day, proved to be the fastest time on track.
Dreyer and Reinbold Racing’s Conor Daly posted the fastest lap of the day, notching a 225.394 mph lap (39.93 seconds) on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his Dallara-Chevrolet.
Meyer Shank Racing’s Helio Castroneves, the only part-time driver to win the Indianapolis 500 in the past 14 runnings, was the fastest Honda in seconds.
Castroneves, the only driver aside from Daly to crack the 225 mph lap mark, was .0345 of a second back of Daly. He will make his fifth attempt at becoming the only five-time Indianapolis 500 winner next month. He’s previously won in 2001, 2002, 2009 and 2021, the latter being with MSR.

In another “one-off” entry, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato was third as he looks for his third victory in this race (2017 and 2020).
2008 winner and five-time pole winner Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing was fourth and 2016 winner Alexander Rossi of Ed Carpenter Racing would round out the Top Five.
Dale Coyne Racing’s Dennis Hauger was best among the rookies in 13th, with 2025 race winner and current NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader Alex Palou of CGR in 14th.

Jack Harvey leads ROP/Refresher Practice
Making his return to Dreyer and Reinbold Racing for a second consecutive Indianapolis 500, Jack Harvey would lead the nine drivers who needed to complete their ROP (Rookie Orientation Program) or Veteran Refresher.
All rookie drivers are required to complete 10 laps at 205-210 mph, 15 laps each at 210-215 and 215+. Veteran drivers who did not participate in any NTT INDYCAR SERIES oval events since the previous year’s race are required to complete the latter two segments.
Harvey would post the fastest overall lap during the session (221.154 mph-40.6957 seconds) as well as the fastest no-tow speed (220.155 mph). During the full-field session, Harvey also turned the best “no-tow” lap at 220.318 mph.
Jacob Abel of Abel Motorsports was fastest among the four rookies in this year’s field and third overall (219.794 mph). Caio Collet had the best no-tow lap among rookies (218.449 mph-third overall). Abel would complete just a single “installation” lap during the afternoon session.
DRR and Abel Motorsports are lone “Indy-Only” teams in this year’s field.

Hauger was the lone rookie not to complete his ROP in the session. He would do so during the early portion of Tuesday afternoon’s test
After their entry was announced on Monday, HMD Motorsports with A.J. Foyt Racing’s Katherine Legge was unable to complete a lap at speed in the session because of clutch issues coupled later with a faulty transponder,
All other drivers completed their necessary programs before the afternoon’s full-field session.
