In Memoriam: Rick Treadway

Former IndyCar driver Ricky Treadway passed away in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, May 30 at age 56.

The son of 1997 Indianapolis 500 Car Owner Fred Treadway, Ricky made his debut in the series in 2001 at Kentucky Speedway, where he started 15th and finished 17th.

In that year’s season finale at Texas Motor Speedway, he earned a career-best finish of fifth.

The following season, he notched a career-best start of ninth at Phoenix. That May, he was teammates with Arie Luyendyk, who had won the 1997 race and pole for the 1999 race with the organization.

He qualified 17th for the Indianapolis 500. Treadway completed 88 laps before he was involved with Tony Kanaan in a Turn 3 crash after Kanaan slipped in an oil leak.

Treadway contested two more IndyCar races before stepping away for other pursuits.

Off track, he was involved in the aviation business as a pilot and flight instructor. The 1993 Indiana State University graduate also raced in various dirt and short track racing series.
