Sato leads Ganassi 1-2 in Carb Day Practice

In the final practice before Sunday’s 107th Indianapolis 500 presented By Gainbridge, it was Chip Ganassi Racing leading the way again. Driving in his first “500:” with CGR, 2017 and 2020 race winner Takuma Sato would be fastest in Carb Day’s two-hour final session. The driver of the No. 11 clocked a best lap of 227.855 mph (39.4988) on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Finishing .099 of a second back of his teammate was 2008 race winner Scott Dixon. Dixon will start his 21st “500” in sixth while Sato lines up seventh.

2018 race winner Will Power was the fastest Chevrolet in his No.12 Team Penske car, he will start 12th. Sunday’s pole sitter Alex Palou finished fourth in this practice, giving CGR three of the four fastest cars. with Andretti Autosport’s Kyle Kirkwood making it four Hondas in the Top Five.

Agustin Canapino was the fastest rookie of the four drivers making their “500” debut this weekend in sixth. The driver of the No.78 Juncos Hollinger Racing entry finished his first Carb Day sixth and rolls off 26th.

Following a 15-minute shakedown yesterday, Dreyer and Reinbold Racing’s Graham Rahal ended the session 30th as he replaces Stefan Wilson in the No. 24 car.

The only major stoppages occurred first when Legge stopped for a tow-in due to a loose wheel on her No. 44 Rahal letterman Lanigan Racing entry. Legge also completed a shakedown following repairs to hr damaged car from the crash on Monday. As the session began winding down, Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport’s Devlin slowed on the back straightaway with tire damage affecting the bottom of his No. 29 car.
