On Friday, the 24-car field took to the streets of St. Petersburg for the first time in preparation for Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

During the 45-minute session, Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden led the way. The two-time race winner posted a best lap of 1m00.8029 on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn circuit. Fellow two-time race winner Will Power finished .0073 of a second off his teammate’s best lap.

Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta topped the Honda-powered teams in third. Aside from an early delay due to data issues, Sebastien Bourdais stopping in the Turn 10 runoff area was the only red flag on the session.
