On the heels of Ed Jones being announced as the driver of their No. 18 entry with Vasser-Sullivan, Dale Coyne Racing announced further plans for 2021.
During the upcoming NTT IndyCar Series season, Rick Ware Racing will join the team and field the No. 51 entry (previously No. 19 and No. 55) for the full season. In addition, the No. 52 will be entered at the Indianapolis 500 and a select number of additional races.
“We were introduced to Rick Ware at last year’s Indy 500 where he ran James Davison in our third entry,”Team Owner Dale Coyne noted in Friday’s release.

“It was interesting to see how similar his efforts in NASCAR Cup and IMSA were to ours. We have talked ever since that event and we are excited to welcome Rick Ware Racing into our family at DCR.”
“I met Dale last year through our Indy efforts with David Byrd and struck up a friendship with him and his team,” added Team Co-Owner Rick Ware.
“I have thought a long time about expanding into IndyCar from our efforts in NASCAR Cup, Xfinity and IMSA, so this collaboration, was an easy and logical step. We look forward to a competitive 2021 and beyond together.”
During Coyne and Ware’s first race together, James Davison started 27th at the Indianapolis 500 before a wheel fire took him out of the race just six laps in, finishing 33rd.
Next week, the driver of the No. 51 will be announced with the sponsor revealed at a later date.
