Warmup Results Combined Practice Results Starting Grid Tire Choices
After concerns over fan safety due to high winds in today’s forecast, the inaugural Java House Grand Prix of Arlington was moved up an hour. The resulting schedule changes also forced the warmup session to be truncated to 20 minutes on track from its usual 30 minutes.
During Sunday morning’s on-track session, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyffin Simpson turned a session-best lap of 1m34.7588 (103.716 mph) on the 2.73-mile, 14-turn street circuit in Arlington, Texas. Simpson will start today’s 70-lap race in 14th on the 25-car grid.
Following Simpson’s Honda was the Juncos Holinger Racing Chevrolet of Rinus VeeKay, who finished .0116 of a second back. VeeKay rolls off 21st in today’s race.
Simpson’s teammate Scott Dixon was third in the session and starts 20th. NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader Josef Newgarden of Team Penske was fourth and starts 11th today. Dennis Hauger of Dale Coyne Racing was best among the rookies and would round out the Top Five.
After claiming his first INDYCAR pole yesterday, Andretti Global’s Marcus Ericsson was 14th in the final warmup.
Shortly after the checkered flag was displayed, Ed Carpenter Racing’s Christian Rasmussen spun in Turn 1 and had rear-wing damage to his machine after making contact with the outside tire barrier. Rasmussen was sixth in th session and will start eighth.
In addition to Simpson, VeeKay, Dixon, Hauger and Rasmussen, Graham Rahal of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Sting Ray Robb of Juncos Hollinger Racing also ran their best practice laps of the weekend.
