Practice 2 Results Combined Practice Results Qualifying Groups
Saturday morning would hold the second practice and last session before the 25-car NTT INDYCAR SERIES grid qualifies for tomorrow’s inaugural Java House Grand Prix of Arlington in Texas. Just like yesterday’s opening practice, the session featured a 40-minute “full-field” session followed by 10 minute sessions for each half of the field, divided by pit lane assignments.
When all sessions were finished, Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood led the field, posting a best lap of 1m33.1409 (105.518 mph) on the 2.73-mile 14-turn street circuit. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou finished second, .1163 of a second off Kirkwood’s best lap. Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong, along with Kirkwood’s teammates Will Power and Marcus Ericsson completed a Top Five sweep for Honda in the session.
Team Penske’s David Malukas led the Chevrolets in the session, placing sixth. After leading opening practice on Friday, his teammate Scott McLaughlin was seventh., Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Mick Schumacher was the only rookie in the Top 15, placing 14th.
Less than 15 minutes into the “all-skate” portion of the session, we had the first multi-car incident of the weekend. After Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon spun near Turn 4, Andretti Global’s Power was unable to avoid his stalled car. Both drivers were able to continue on following necessary repairs. Dixon would finish the morning in 14th overall.
During the waning moments of that 40-minute session, points leader Josef Newgarden found the inside wall in Turn 2, sustain left-front damage to his Team Penske machine. He would end the session 12th.
In the first group session, Armstrong spun in Turn 14, prompting the only stoppage in either group. All 25 drivers eclipsed their best lap from yesterday’s practice,
