2025 BITNILE.com Grand Prix of Portland Results
While his future remains undecided, Team Penske’s Will Power earned his first victory of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season on Sunday by winning the BITNILE.com Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway on Sunday.
Power, who earns his 45th INDYCAR victory (fourth all-time), matches the record of three wins at the 1.964-mile, 12-turn permanent road course in Oregon held by Michael Andretti and Al Unser, Jr.
The repeat is the first at PIR since the late Gil de Ferran won there in 1999 and 2000.
He led 78 of 110 laps on the day, including the final 27.
After starting third, Power would fend off Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard by 1.5388 seconds for Penske’s first win of 2025. Lundgaard earned his third runner-up finish and fifth podium of the season while giving Chevrolet their second 1-2 finish of 2025 (Iowa Race 1).
Lundgaard won the pole yesterday but was forced to start in seventh because of an unapproved engine change on Saturday.
Finishing third, Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing locked up the Astor Cup for the series championship with two races to go. Palou joins Ted Horn, Sebastien Bourdais and Dario Franchitti as the only drivers to win three consecutive championships.

Palou’s fourth championship matches Bourdais, Franchitti and Mario Andretti for third-most INDYCAR Championships behind A.J. Foyt and teammate Scott Dixon.
CGR also matches Team Penske’s INDYCAR record with 17 series championships.
This is also the earliest a championship has been clinched since Cristiano da Matta’s 2002 CART title was clinched with three races to go.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan. Racing’s Graham Rahal and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Alexander Rossi both earned their first Top Five finishes of the season.

By finishing 13th after his 14th-place start, Rahal’s teammate Louis Foster extends his lead in Rookie of the Year standings over PREMA Racing’s Robert Shwartzman to six points.
Recap
After a clean two laps to start the race, trouble broke out in the back of the field as the leaders began Lap 3.
A.J. Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci spun exiting Turn 12 and made heavy contact with the outside wall in Turn 12. The 2024 Portland pole sitter would climb from his Chevrolet-powered car but his day would end in a 27th-place finish.
During the restart on Lap 8, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Louis Foster spun in Turn 2 after contact from the Chip Ganassi Racing car of Kyffin Simpson, while Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay spun further back while aiming to steer away from Foster. Simpson would be sent to the back of the field ahead of the Lap 11 restart.
On Lap 14, the race would go back to green. A lap later frustrations between Christian Rasmussen and Conor Daly boiled over. Daly would spin and had a massive impact with with inside tire barrier in Turn 9.
When the race got back under green at Lap 20, Power began to drive away from the field. O’Ward would see his slim hopes at remaining in contention for the Astor Cup disappear on Lap 25 when his car began to lose power due to an electrical issue. O’Ward would return to the track, albeit nine laps down, and finish 25th.
Although the final 91 laps of the race were run under green, Josef Newgarden did spin in Turn 2 on Lap 84 following contact with Scott Dixon. Dixon would be given a drive-through penalty for avoidable contact.
Lundgaard and Palou would close the gap following the last pair of pit stops to end the race but Power hung on for the victory.

Three cautions for 11 laps slowed the race to a 107.038 mph average speed. Over the 110 laps, there were 11 lead changes between five drivers in the last race on a permanent road course for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in 2025.
