Practice 2 Results Combined Practice Results Qualifying Groups
2024 pole and race winner Colton Herta further cemented Andretti Global’s dominance at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto, leading Saturday morning’s practice.
Herta, who goes into the 13th race of the 17-race 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule without a win, posted a best lap of 1m00.0578 (107.057 mph) on the 1.786-mile, 11-turn street circuit at Toronto’s Exhibition Place.
Teammate Kyle Kirkwood, who paced yesterday’s practice, was a full tenth of a second back of his teammate.
Chevrolets would round out the Top Five with 2015 and 2017 Toronto winner Josef Newgarden and teammate Scott McLaughlin following the Andretti duo. Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward was fifth.
Points leader Alex Palou was seventh in his Chip Ganassi Racing entry and Louis Foster of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing was best among the rookie trio in 18th.
As time ran out on the session, rookie Jacob Abel suffered the first major incident of the weekend.
In Turn 6, Abel clipped the wall and broke the toe link on his Dale Coyne Racing entry before spinning and making contact with the inside wall in Turn 7. Abel finished 25th in the 27-car field during the practice.
Dixon assessed penalty for engine change
On Friday morning, INDYCAR announced a penalty for the No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing entry driven by four-time Toronto winner Scott Dixon.
Per a release from the series:
“INDYCAR has announced a six-position starting grid penalty for the entry of No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing for an unapproved engine change following the Sunday, July 13 race at Iowa Speedway.
The entry was in violation of:
Rule 16.1.2.3.2. A fifth (5th) Engine is eligible to earn Engine Manufacturer points if a Full Season Entrant has completed the Full Season Entrant Engine Mileage with its first four (4) Engines. Otherwise, a fifth (5th) or more Engine does not earn Engine Manufacturer points and will be considered an Unapproved Engine change-out.
According to Rule 16.1.6.1.2., the penalty is a six-position starting grid penalty on road and street course events and nine positions at oval events and will be served at the series’ next event, which is the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto Sunday, July 20 on the Streets of Toronto.”
