Kyle Kirkwood leads Practice 1 in Toronto

Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood opened the weekend by leading practice for Sunday’s 90-lap Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto.

Kirkwood, who has won the last two races the NTT INDYCAR SERIES has run on temporary street circuits, notched a best lap of 1m01.2054 (105,050 mph) on the 1.786-mile, 11-turn Exhibition Place course in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Kirkwood, who started and finished second behind teammate Colton Herta in last year’s race, bested Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin by .1357 of a second.

Points leader Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing was third on the afternoon, which saw a 45-minute full-field session that preceded alternating 10-minute split-group sessions.

Palou (St. Petersburg) and Kirkwood (Long Beach and Detroit) are the only drivers to win on a street course in 2025 and two of four with a victory 12 races into the 17-race season.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong ended the on-track sessions in fourth, with three-time Toronto winner Will Power joining his teammate McLaughlin as the lone Chevrolets in the Top Five.

Defending race winner Herta was 10th. On two occasions has a driver won at Toronto in consecutive seasons-Michael Andretti is th only driver to accomplish that feat-1994-95 and 2000-2001.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Louis Foster, who leads the Rookie of the Year standings, was best among the drivers making their first start in the series’ lone trip outside the United States.

Nolan Siegel of Arrow McLaren ran 22nd in the 27-car field during Friday’s session. Yesterday, the sophomore driver was cleared for the weekend after suffering a mild concussion in a crash at Iowa Speedway on Saturday.

After withdrawing their No. 6 entry once Siegel was not cleared for Sunday’s race, Arrow McLaren announced on Monday that 2024 INDYCAR Rookie of the Year Linus Lundqvist. Lundqvist is on-site in Toronto should any further issues arise.
