Louis Foster wins first INDYCAR pole at Road America

For the second time in four races, an NTT INDYCAR SERIES rookie will start on the pole.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Louis Foster will lead the 27-car field to the green flag in tomorrow’s 55-lap XPEL Grand Prix at Road America.

It is his first career pole in his ninth career start. RLLR earns their 38th pole as an organization and first since Graham Rahal at Portland in 2023.

In addition to Co-Owner Bobby Rahal’s 1991 pole at Road America with Galles Kraco Racing, Kenny Brack also started on pole for the organization in 2001’s event.

Fast Six Results

Foster notched a best lap of 1m44.5141 (138.263 mph), besting points leader Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing by .1159 of a second on the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood starts third as he looks for a third consecutive win and first on a permanent road course. Honda earns their third 1-2-3 qualifying effort of 2025 (IMS Road Course and 1-2-3-4 at Long Beach).

Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin is best among the Chevrolets in fourth. On Row 3, Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard and Foster’s teammate Graham Rahal round out the Fast Six.

Round 2-Fast 12

Palou (1m44.6284-138.112 mph) was again the fastest in the session. Along with Palou, the Fast Six would include Lundgaard, Foster, Mclaughlin, Kirkwood and Rahal.

Not advancing to the final round were David Malukas, Will Power, Callum Ilott (PREMA Racing’s best road course start and first appearance in the Fast 12), Josef Newgarden, Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist. They will start in seventh through 12th on Sunday.

Round 1

Group 1:

Palou (1m44.4775-138.311 mph) would lead the opening group for qualifying. Joining him in the second round were Rahal, Ilott, O’Ward, Kirkwood and Newgarden .

Missing out on the next round were Nolan Siegel, Marcus Armstrong, Robert Shwartzman, Devlin DeFrancesco, Conor Daly, Kyffin Simpson and Scott Dixon. They will start on the inside of Rows 7-13 tomorrow.

Dixon initially made it through ahead of Newgarden but would later be penalized for interfering with DeFrancesco’s lap, in accordance with Rule 8.3.7-

“If a Car interferes with the Qualifications attempt of another Car other than through a Red Condition:”

Per Rule 8.3.7.1-“If the violation occurs during Segment One (1) or Segment Two (2), the Car’s best two (2) timed laps during that segment shall be disallowed and the Car shall not advance to the next segment.”

Group 2:

Lundgaard picked up where he left off this morning by posting the best lap in Group 2 for the opening round of qualifying (1m44.7401-137.964 mph). Advancing with him to the next round were McLaughlin, Malukas, Power, Rosenqvist and Foster.

Marcus Ericsson, Colton Herta, Santino Ferucci, Christian Rasmussen, Rinus VeeKay, Alexander Rossi, Sting Ray Robb and Jacob Abel did not advance. Abel will start in 27th with thee other seven drivers on the outside of rows 7-13.
