2025 Bommarito Automotive Group 500 Results

Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood had become known as a “street course ace” during his brief NTT INDYCAR SERIES career. In 58 starts, all four of his victories and five career podiums were on temporary street circuits.

In tonight’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Worldwide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, Kirkwood led just eight laps but held on to win for the first time on an oval and the fifth in his career.

Finishing .5398 of a second ahead of Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward, Kirkwood earned his third win of 2025 and second in a row.

Before today, his best oval finish was seventh at Iowa Race 1 in 2023 and 2024. Andretti Global gets their first win at the 1.25-mile oval in Madison, Illinois. It is just the second podium for the organization since the series’ 2017 return (Alexander Rossi-2018).

O’Ward gets his fourth runner-up finish at WWTR and third of 2025. He is now 77 points behind Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou in the points standings. Kirkwood is 84 back.

After starting 25th, Ed Carpenter Racing’s Christian Rasmussen earned his first career podium his debut at WWTR, improving 22 spots (most in the field). Two-time race winner Scott Dixon of CGR finished fourth, with A.J. Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci continuing an impressive run for the organization by finishing fifth.

PREMA Racing also earned their first INDYCAR Top 10 with rookie Robert Shwartzman.

Race Recap

On the opening lap, Malukas charged to the lead from his fourth-place starting spot. In Turn 1 on Lap five, Devlin DeFrancesco spun and made contact with the outside wall. The hit damaged the rear wing of his Rahal Letterman Laningan Racing entry.

DeFrancesco would make it back on track. He would end the race in 24th, 34 laps down.

After the Lap 11 restart, Daly continued his fast run to the front, moving to sixth after starting 15th. Newgarden would make his way up to third. On Lap 47, pole sitter Will Power drifted into the outside wall in Turn 4 and brushed the wall. Power sustained damage to the right-front of his Team Penske machine after a tire failure. His day would end in 27th place.

While he worked through oncoming traffic, Mclaughlin has a brief run-in with Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel for the second time in as many races. Siegel was assessed a drive-through penalty for blocking McLaughlin.

Just past halfway in the race, Newgarden’s day ended in spectacular fashion. After tagging the wall in Turn 4, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Louis Foster’s suspension broke. Newgarden collided with Foster’s broken car and flipped on its side adjacent to the pit lane wall. Both drivers would climb from their cars and be released from the infield care cent shortly thereafter.

Malukas and McLaughlin would be penalized for improper lane usage and sent to fourth and fifth. Following the Lap 150 restart, Daly found his way around O’Ward for the lead of the race.

Daly and O’Ward pitted on Lap 191 and 192, handing the lead to Kyle Kirkwood with less than 70 laps to go.

While the leaders cycled through on pit stops Maluaks was forced up high racing Kirkwood. After brushing the Turn 4 wall, the caution was promptly thrown.

Dixon would lead at the Lap 208 restart before pitting with 24 to go as Kirkwood followed one lap after. Ferrucci, Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist and PREMA Racing’s Callum Ilott also had turns at the front in the waning stages of the race. With five to go, Ilott would pit and Kirkwood cycled back to the lead of the race.

From there, he would hold off O’Ward for the victory. In a race featuring 20 lead changes among 14 drivers ( the latter tied with the Indianapolis 500 for most in 2025), the average speed was 135.939 mph after four cautions for 47 laps slowed the race.
