Will Power earned pole for Sunday’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Worldwide technology Raceway. After posting a two-lap average of 180.329 mph, Power extended his NTT INDYCAR SERIES record to 71 career poles. It is also the 700th for Team Penske across their organization’s motorsports efforts.
Power will start at the front of the 27-car field in tomorrow’s 260-lap race on the 1.25-mile oval in Madison, Illinois. This is also his first INDYCAR pole since the Iowa Speedway doubleheader in 2023, 29 races ago. Power is also the 2018 race winner.
Teammate Scott McLaughlin will start on the front row alongside Power in second. While McLaughlin has yet to win at WWTR, he has never finished worse than fifth.
Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward and A.J. Foyt Racing’s David Malukas occupy the second row. Five-time race winner Josef Newgarden starts fifth behind his teammates Power and McLaughlin.
Following the sweep of the Top Five from Chevrolet, Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong was best among the Honda contingent in sixth. Chevrolet-powered entries have won pole for half of this year’s eight races but have yet to make it to Victory Lane.
Points leader Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing will start ninth as he looks for his first podium at the venue. He and Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global have swept the first seven races of the 2025 season. (Palou won five). Kirkwood will start 10th and is in search of his first Top Five finish at WWTR.
Louis Foster of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing was best among the rookies in 21st. In addition to this year’s rookie trio, Christian Rasmussen of Ed Carpenter Racing will also make his WWTR INDYCAR debut.
