Andretti Global’s Colton Herta won pole for tomorrow’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix and will start tomorrow’s 100-lap race at the front of the 27-car field. It is the 15th pole of his career and the 60th pole for the organization.
Herta, who started on pole in last year’s race, finished 11th in the series’ 2023 return to the 1.645-mile, nine turn street circuit. In six appearances on Detroit’s temporary street circuits, Herta’s best finish was fourth in Race 2 of the 2021 doubleheader at Belle Isle after starting in second.
Round 3-Fast Six

Herta led the way with a best lap of 1m00.4779 (97.920 mph), besting A.J. Foyt Racing’s David Malukas by .1713 of a second.
On Row 2, Herta’s teammate Kyle Kirkwood best Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard as Honda And Chevrolet alternated grid spots again. On Row 3, the Hondas of Graham Rahal from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and points leader Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing rounded out the contenders for pole.
Rahal is one of two drivers who will serve a six-position penalty due to an engine change last week. He will start 11th.
Round 2-Fast 12

Herta again posted the best lap, leading the second round with a 1m00.4569 (97.954 mph) effort. Making it to the Fast Six with him were Kirkwood, Malukas, Lundgaard, Palou and Rahal.
Rinus Veekay, Scott McLaughlin, Will Power, Scott Dixon, Marcus Armstrong and Christian Rasmussen missed the cut. They qualify seventh through 12. (Dixon will serve a grid penalty and start 16th after an engine change).
Round 1-Group 2
Following up on his best lap from this morning’s practice, Herta was best in Group for the opening round of qualifying with a best lap 1m00.6878 (97.581 mph). Joining him in the next round were Rahal, Malukas, Rasmussen, Kirkwood and Dixon.
Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel finished 14th after engine issues and starts 27th for tomorrow’s race.
The drivers knocked out in Round 1 with him were Louis Foster, Alexander Rossi, Patto O’Ward, Jacob Abel, Robert Shwartzman, Josef Newgarden and Sting Ray Robb. They will start on the outside of Rows 7-13.
Foster, the current Rookie of the Year leader, was again fastest of the drivers making their first INDYCAR start in Detroit.
Round 1-Group 1
‘

Power (1m00.9823-97.110 mph) started qualifying by posting the best lap of the weekend to that point. He would advance to the second round along with Palou, Lundgaard, McLaughlin, Armstrong and VeeKay.
Missing the cut would be Marcus Ericsson, Felix Roseqnvist, Callum Ilott, Kyffin Simpson, Santino Ferrucci, Devlin DeFrancesco and Conor Daly. They will start on the inside of Rows 7-13.
