Qualifying Order Practice Results
Team Peensske’s Scott McLaughlin would notch the best lap of the hour-long practice session ahead of this afternoon’s Fast 12 qualifying for the 109th Indianapolis 500.
The 2024 pole winner notched a best lap of 233.553 mph (38.5352 seconds) on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It would be a bitter end to the session a short time later for McLaughlin unfortunately.
Less than 17 minutes into the session, qualifying weekend was marred by a third crash. McLaughlin made heavy impact with the outside wall and got airborne.
Debris littered the entrance of the back straightaway. He was able to climb from his wrecked race car and walk away unassisted to the ambulance for a ride to the infield care center.
He was seen and released a short time after. Team Penske has elected to forego his Fast 12 qualifying attempt, meaning her will start next Sunday’s 200-lap race from 12th.

2008 race winner Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing looks for his record-tying sixth pole at this race. He was second to his fellow New Zealander in practice, .0517 of a second off the Chevrolet in his Honda.
2022 and 2024 runner-up Pato O”Ward of Arrow McLaren was third, with Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist was fourth. After posting the best four-lap average in yesterday’s qualifying, Dixon’s teammate Alex Palou was fifth as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader goes for a second pole at the “500” in three years.
Of the cars who qualified Top 12, only Andretti Global’s Marcus Ericsson and PREMA Racing’s Robert Shwartzman opted not to make any runs during practice. Ericsson was 11th-fastest win Saturday qualifying, while Shwartzman was best among the rookies in 6th.
Andretti leads four competing in Last Row Shootout

At the other end of the grid, four drivers are left to compete for the remaining trio of spots on the 11th row.
Andretti Global with Curb-Agajanian and Marco Andretti’s driver Marco Andretti was quickest among the quartet of remaining drivers. Andretti, the 2020 pole winner, notched a best lap of 229.781 mph (39.1677 seconds) during the group’s hour-long time on track.
Rebounding from a violent crash yesterday morning, Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong was second, .0008 of a second off Andretti’s best lap. The Dale Coyne Racing duo of Rinus VeeKay and rookie Jacob Abel rounding out the running order as they would all run multiple times in the session.
