NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader Alex Palou posted the best lap of the day in Wednesday’s practice for the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver turned a best lap of 227,546 mph (39.5524 seconds) on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In addition to Palou, 22 drivers improved on their fastest lap from Tuesday’s practice.

Like yesterday, the session was delayed due to earlier rain in the area.

Following a delay of more than an hour, the on-track running commenced for the 34 drivers looking for a spot in the 33-car field on May 25.

Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood was 18th overall but posted the best lap without a tow (car within 10 seconds in front of him). That lap was a 222.760 mph effort.

Marcus Ericsson, Marcus Armstrong and Santino Ferruccii were the only drivers not to record a no-tow lap during today’s running.

Tomorrow will be the last full practice before turbocharger boot is added for qualifying weekend, where no-tow speed will be at its most critical point.
