Practice 1 Results

Points leader Alex Palou kicked off the Sonsio Grand Prix race weekend by posting the fastest lap during the opening practice session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver posted a best lap of 1m09.979 (125.472 mph) on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn permanent road course. He is looking for a third consecutive victory in this race.

Teammate Kyffin Simpson was second, .0887 of a second back from Palou. Louis Foster of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing completed a 1-2-3 effort for Honda and was the fastest rookie in the session.

A.J. Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci and Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel completed the Top Five. Like Foster, Siegel makes his first INDYCAR appearance on the IMS Road Course this weekend.

2021 race winner Rinus VeeKay of Dale Coyne Racing brought out the only red flag of the full-field session when he stalled on the back straightaway but continued on after a tow-in.
