Defending Long Beach winner Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing ended the session fourth after qualifying 14th yesterday. Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward rounded out the Top Five in the 25-minute session and starts ninth today.

Pole winner Kyle Kirkwood was sixth in the session and PREMA Racing’s Robert Shwartzman was 14th. The current Rookie of the Year leader starts his Long Beach debut in 24th.

Nearing the halfway point of the session, the red flag was displayed when Herta and Dale Coyne Racing’s Jacob Abel made contact exiting Turn 11. Abel got the worst of it, sustaining moderate damage to his No. 51 entry. Herta would have minor damage to the front wing of his car.

Herta would also be assessed a five-minute penalty for causing a collision. Following the three minute, 54-second red flag, the 25-minute session was run to the end without further incident. Now, the field turns focus to this afternoon’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
