On Tuesday morning, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing announced that iit will again field a fourth entry at this year’s Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge for Takuma Sato.
Sato will attempt to make his 16th start in the race this May. He won in 2017 and in 2020, the latter of which being with RLLR. That year, he also made his first start on the front row in third.
“I’m very excited to return to the 109th Indy 500 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Bobby, Mike, David, and the entire organization for this incredible opportunity,” Sato expressed in Tuesday’s release.
“Last year was an incredible experience, reconnecting with the team, and this year, even more familiar faces have joined the effort, which makes this moment even more special and gives me great confidence. I can’t wait to get to work.”
Sato, who has competed in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES on a limited basis the last two seasons. In the 2024 500, Sato finished 14th after starting 10th. In his 15 years in the series, Sato has won four of his six career races with RLLR and three of his ten career poles.
His first on-track time in the No. 75 is expected to be at the Open Test on April 23-24.

Sato and longtime teammate Graham Rahal are joined by rookie Louis Foster and Devlin DeFrancesco, who is looking to make his third start in this race.
