Following his start to the weekend at the top of the practice chart on Friday, Colton Herta was again the fastest I in Saturday morning’s practice for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto.

The Andretti Global driver notched a best lap of 1m00.5763 (106.141 mph) on the 1.786-mile, 11-turn Exhibiton Place circuit in Toronto.

In second, Herta’s teammate Kyle Kirkwood was .1374 of a second off his teammate’s best lap. Will Power of Team Penske was best among the Chevrolets in third, with the Chip Ganassi Racing duo of Scott Dixon and points leader Alex Palou.

Herta won pole for this race in 2022 but Power (2007, 2010, 2016) and Dixon (2013 Races 1 and 2, 2018 and 2022) were the only former winners to finish among the Top Six in the 45-minute practice.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Hunter McElrea continued an impressive start to his first INDYCAR weekend, finishing best among the rookie drivers in 16th.

Despite 27 cars being entered for Sunday’s 85-lap race, only 26 were on track,

Pourchaire to sub for Rossi

Following his crash in yesterday’s opening practice, Arrow McLaren’s Alexander Rossi was diagnosed with a broken right thumb.

Rossi will not compete in this weekend’s race and has flown back to Indianapolis.

In his place, Arrow McLaren has called up Theo Pourchaire to drive the No. 7 entry. Pourchaire, who drove five races in the No. 6 entry this year, is flying to the race from his native France at this time.

He and the No. 7 team did not participate in this morning’s practice but is expected to arrive in time for qualifying.
