Group 1 Group 2 Combined Practice Results
Andretti Global’s Colton Herta was fastest during Friday afternoon’s opening practice for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto. Herta posted a best lap of 1m01.0399 (105.334 mph) on the 1.786-mile, 11-turn Exhibiton Place circuit in Toronto, Canada.
Herta was .1898 of. second ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou, the current points leader, with Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist and Palou’s teammate Scott Dixon completing a 1-2-3-4 for Honda.
Two-time race winner Josef Newgarden was seventh-quickest. Dale Coyne Racing’s Hunter McElrea was 12th in his first INDYCAR practice, best among the six rookies in this weekend’s field.
Less than halfway through the first 45-minute session, Andretti Global’s Marcus Ericsson lost the Honda engine in his machine. He would coast back to pit lane and see an early finish to his session.
During one of the 10-minute group sessions, Alexander Rossi made heavy contact with the inside tire barrier in Turn 9, prompting the one caution of the afternoon.
Rossi posted the fifth-best lap before his crash.
In the aftermath of the accident, Rossi appeared to injure his hand but no further update is available as of now.
