Colton Herta of Andretti Global was quickest in Saturday morning’s 60-minute practice for this weekend’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.

Herta posted a best lap of 1m01.5726 seconds (96.179 mph) on the 1.645-mile, 9-turn street circuit. Teammate Kyle Kirkwood was .1655 of a second behind in second. After leading yesterday’s opening practice, defending pole and race winner Alex Palou was third, giving Honda a 1-2-3 finish to the session.

Arrow McLaren’s Theo Pourchaire was best among the rookies and Chevrolet entrants in fourth. Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Agustin Canapino followed his Chevy stablemate in fifth.

After slapping the wall late in Friday’s practice, Marcus Ericsson’s issues continued. The Andretti Global driver spent more than 15 minutes on pit road to fix an electrical issue. He would end the session in 13th of the 27 drivers in the field.

With 75 seconds remaining, Pourchaire made contact with the tire barrier in Turn 9. The first-year driver’s incident did stop the clock as it was the first incident of the session.

During the stoppage, a scuffle broke out between Kirkwood and Santino Ferrucci of A.J. Foyt Racing. Ferrucci expressed displeasure with Kirkwood and Herta’s driving on the Peacock broadcast.
