With turbocharger boost turned up for an increase of 100 horsepower, speeds at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway went up.

During the final six-hour practice before qualifying weekend begins, Andretti Global’s Colton Herta was atop the speed chart.

Herta, who started second in 2021 and has a career-best finish of eighth in 2020, notched a best lap of 234.974 mph (38.3021 seconds) on the 2.5-mile oval.

Arrow McLaren’s Kyle Larson was the best rookie and Chevrolet following the Honda.

Larson was .115 of a second off Herta’s best lap. 2023 race winner Josef Newgarden was third. He did boast the best no-tow lap (234.270 mph) and best four-lap average (234.056).

Newgarden’s teammate Scott McLaughlin was fourth and Larson’s teammate Alexander Rossi was fifth.

Following a pair of incidents on Thursday, another crash halted the running on Friday afternoon.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Nolan Siegel spun in Turn 2 and made contact with the inside wall before his car jumped on its slide.

After his Dallara-Honda slid to a stop, the AMR Safety Team would help the rookie climb from his car. Prior to the crash, he was 28th among 30 cars that had recorded a time.

He ended the day 34th and will qualify using the team’s backup chassis. That chassis has primarily been used as their road course car.

Points leader and last weekend’s race winner Alex Palou had the Honda engine in his Chip Ganassi Racing entry.

Last year’s Indianapolis 500 pole winner was 21st at the time of the issue before ending the session in 24th.

There was not fluid on the race track but a caution was displayed for a lengthy cleanup on pit road in the wake of the issue.

Following that cleanup, there were no major incidents as teams dialed in their setups for qualifying. Listed below is the qualifying order for tomorrow.
