After Opening Day washouts the last two years, the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge would see Tuesday practice begin on time.

Unfortunately, inclement weather limited the on-track running to 23 minutes. In that time, 2008 race winner Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing was the fastest of the 25 drivers in the 34-car entry list to record a time.

Dixon, who is also in search of a record-tying sixth career pole, notched a best lap of 229.107 (39.2829 seconds) on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Following Dixon on the speed chart were 2020 pole winner Marco Andretti of Andretti Global and two-time “500” winner Takuma Sato of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward was best among the Chevrolets in fourth. Sato’s teammate Christian Lundgaard was fifth, giving Honda four of the Top Five laps.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Tom Blomqvist was the fastest of four rookies to record a lap on Tuesday morning (17th).

Points leader and last year’s pole winner Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing and Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing’s Katherine Legge did not record a lap. CGR’s rookie trio of Kyffin Simpson, Linus Lundqvist and Marcus Armstrong were not recorded on the practice sheet.
