Warmup Results Combined Practice Results Starting Lineup
Looking for his 10th career victory this afternoon, two-time and defending INDYCAR Champion Alex Palou would lead the 27-car field in the 30-minute warmup at Barber Motorsports Park ahead of today’s Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix.
Palou, who starts 10th in his Chip Ganassi Racing entry, notched a best lap of 1m06.3195 (124.850 MPH) on the 2.3-mile, 17-turn Birmingham, Alabama permanent road course. It was the fastest lap run of any between the trio of sessions this weekend.
The 2021 race winner’s best lap was .4874 of a second ahead of Meyer Shank Racing Felix Rosenqvist. The Long Beach pole sitter continued his streak of Fast Six appearances yesterday and starts fifth.
Three-time Barber winner Josef Newgarden of Team Penske was the quickest Chevrolet in the session in third. Newgarden lines up eighth this afternoon. Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood and Palou’d teammate Scott Dixon rounded out the Top Five for Honda.
Pole winner Scott McLaughlin was sixth as he looks to become the first repeat winner at Barber since Newgarden in 2017-2018.
Kyffin Simpson of Chip Ganassi Racing turned in another impressive performance for his team, as he was the highest-placing rookie in seventh.
Approximately nine minutes into the session, Felix Rosenqvist spun between Turns 9-10. The red flag would last just over three minutes. Following that, the session would continue unabated.
McLaughlin and Newgarden’s teammate Will Power saw his warmup draw to an early close after engine issues. The Peacock broadcast also reported the two-time Barber winner, who starts second, was feeling ill after climbing from his car.
