Practice 2 Results Combined Practice Results Qualifying Groups
Chevrolet teams agin found themselves on top of the Barber Motorsports Park scoring pylon at the end of Saturday’s 45-minute practice session.
After second practice for Sunday’s Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix, the driver of the No. 21 was first, having turned a best lap of 1m06.5463 (124.425 mph) on the 2.3-mile, 17-turn road course in Leeds, Alabama.
VeeKay, who stated on the pole and finished third at Barber in 2022, was .0356 of a second ahead of Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Romain Grosjean.
2023 Barber winner Scott McLaughlin of Team Penske would give Chevrolet a 1-2-3 sweep. McLaughlin’s teammate Josef Newgarden, a three-time Barber winner who led opening practice yesterday, was ninth among the 27 cars.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal, a tw0-time Barber runner-up, was fourth, best among the Honda entries. Teammate Christian Lundgaard rounded out the Top 5.
Another high mark for ECR would come as Christian Rasmussen was fastest among the rookies in 15th. Luca Ghiotto, who makes his INDYCAR debut for Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing, was 24th.
Early on in the session, Pietro Fittipaldi went off track in Turn 2.
The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver went through the gravel trap and stopped on the infield grass. Their red flag was brought out to retrieve the No. 30 and the session would continue approximately five minutes later.
Just past halfway in the session, Arrow McLaren’s Théo Pourchaire would slide off track in Turn 14, ultimately stopping in the grass.
Long Beach pole sitter Felix Rosenqvist saw his session end abruptly. The Meyer Shank Racing driver reported a power issue that could necessitate an engine change for the No. 60 entry.3
