One of the first moves in what is expected to be a be a busy 2023-2024 offseason was announced Wednesday morning.

Marcus Ericsson was confirmed to join Andretti Autosport beginning next year.

“Like everyone else, we have paid close attention to Marcus’ success in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and have been impressed with how quickly he proved that he belonged with the frontrunners in what is arguably the most competitive INDYCAR field ever,” Michael Andretti, chairman and CEO, Andretti Autosport noted in Wednesday’s announcement.

“It’s no secret that we want to win races and championships and to do that we need drivers like Marcus, who have that natural talent and determined drive. We are excited for the winning mindset that Marcus brings to the table, and I’m eager to see what next season has in store for us.”

Ericsson, who joined the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in 2019, will drive for his third organization. The Kumla, Sweden native has four career victories, including the 2022 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.

This year, Ericsson won the season opener at St. Petersburg and finished second at the Indianapolis 500.

It was the best finish by a defending winner since Helio Castroneves finished second to Gil de Ferran in 2003 following his 2001 and 2002 victories.

“I’m very happy and proud to be joining Andretti Autosport next season,” Ericsson said.

“Andretti is one of the most legendary names in motorsports, so it is definitely a dream come true for me to join this team. I want to thank Michael and (Co-Owner) Dan (Towriss) for putting their trust in me, and I can’t wait to get to know everyone in the organization.

“It’s a very exciting new chapter in my career, and I’m really looking forward to getting to work achieving our goals together. Exciting times are ahead, and I’m thankful for this opportunity.”

Ericsson’s move will conclude his four years at Chip Ganassi Racing, where he earned all four of his career victories to date. He currently is sixth in points, where he finished the previous two seasons.

More details, including car number and sponsors for Ericsson, will be announced at a later date.
