After making his debut at Toronto last month, IMSA driver Tom Blomqvist will run full-time for Meyer Shank Racing in the No. 06 during the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.

“I’ve been itching to make the step up to INDYCAR and this is an opportunity I’m eager and motivated to make the most of,” Blomqvist exclaimed in Friday’s announcement.

“INDYCAR is an incredibly competitive series and I’m under no illusions in how difficult this championship can be, but I am extremely motivated to make the most of this exciting new challenge.”

Blomqvvist, a native of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, started 20th before he was involved in an opening lap crash at the Honda Indy Toronto, ultimately finishing 25th.

“We are thrilled to bring Tom (Blomqvist) over to our INDYCAR program full-time starting next year, and to be able to keep Helio as a key part of our program moving forward and go for a fifth Indianapolis 500 victory next year,” said Team Co-Owner Mike Shank.

The current driver of the No. 06, Helio Castroneves, will take on a minority stake in MSR.

“Throughout my career I’ve been very fortunate to surround myself with an amazing group of people and this journey will be my next chapter and I can’t wait for that,” Castroneves noted.

“Don’t get me wrong, I still have a lot of fuel to burn inside in terms of driving and I will do that at the Indy 500 as I continue my pursuit of the Drive for Five.”

In addition to his participation in May’s 108th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge and the continued “Drive for Five”, he will serve as driver mentor and team ambassador.

Meyer Shank Racing will announce its 2024 plans for the second full-time entry (the No. 60) at a later time.
