Continuing on their recent success at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal posted the best lap (1m09.8421-125.718 mph) during the 75-minute session. Rahal has finished second twice on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn permanent road course in Speedway, Indiana (May 2015 and July 2020).
Felix Rosenqvist of Arrow McLaren in second was the fastest Chevrolet entry and the only driver aside from Rahal with a sub-1m-10s lap, clocking .0848 of a second off his best time. May pole winner Christian Lundgaard joined his RLLR teammate in the Top three.
Alexander Rossi, the 2022 race winner who finished third in May, was fourth, bookending the Top Four for Arrow McLaren. Points leader and the most recent IMS Road Course winner Alex Palou was fifth in his Chip Ganassi Racing entry.
Palou’s teammate and rookie points leader Marcus Armstrong was 11th, best among the quintet of first-year racers.
Just before the session reached halfway, May runenr-up Pato O”Ward spun in Turn 12, prompting the first red flag of the weekend. Less than three minutes later, the session returned to green flag and continued to the end of the allotted 75 minutes without further interruption.
