Hy-vee Homefront 250 Qualifying (Race 1) Results Hy-vee One Step 250 Qualifying (Race 2) Results

Repeating the success he achieved during the 2022 doubleheader, Team Penske’s Will Power extended his INDYCAR record to 70 career pole wins. Following a lengthy delay to clean the .894-mile Newton, Iowa bull ring up from a morning shower, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES was able to set the field for both races.

In sweeping qualifying for the Hy-vee INDYCAR Race Weekend at Iowa Speedway, Power earns his first poles since the 2022 finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. That was also the site of Team Penske’s last pole.

Chevrolet now has three poles on the season. Before this morning’s session, only Felix Rosenqvist (Texas Motor Speedway) had won a pole for the engine supplier in 2023.

Power’s laps were run at 181.426 mph (17.7395 seconds) and 181.576 (17.246), the only driver above 181 mph. For both Race 1 and 2, he will be joined on the front row by teammate Scott McLaughlin, whose first lap was the only other above 180 mph in the session. Race 1 will be a Penske 1-2-3 with Josef Newgarden slotted in behind his teammates for this afternoon’s 250-lap race.

After leading Friday afternoon’s opening practice, Newgarden will start seventh for Sunday’s 250-lap event.

Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing lines up I’m fourth for Race 2, best among the Honda entries. David Malukas of Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports starts third in Race 2, leading Honda’s efforts. Points leader Alex Palou rolls off seventh in Race 1 and 12th for Race 2.

Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Agustin Canapino (25th and 23rd) wil lead the three rookies in this weekend’s 28-car field. After failing to pass pre-qualifying technical inspection, A.J. Foyt Racing’s Benjamin Pedersen did not make a qualifying attempt and will start last in both races.

For Race 1, Rahal Letterman Lanigan’s Jack Harvey was given a nine-spot penalty for avoidable contact during last weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto.
