Practice 2 Results Combined Practice Results Qualifying Order
Following a relatively calm and uneventful opening practice to begin the weekend on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning’s 45-minute practice was anything but tame.
During the hour allotted to complete the last on-track session before qualifying for Sunday’s Sonsio Grand Prix, five red flags were displayed.
When the checkered flag was displayed to end the session, it was Arrow McLaren’s Alexander Rossi leading the way again. The 2019 race winner and last year’s pole winner clocked a best lap of 1m40.9112 (143.199 mph) on the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course.
Rossi’s Chevrolet would again edge out a Honda driver For this session, Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta was second on the speed chart. The 2019 pole winner was .1472 of a second back of his former teammate. Rossi’s current teammate Felix Rosenqvist (2020 Race 2 winner at Road America) was third.
David Malukas of Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsport followed up a second-place effort from yesterday by finishing fourth in this practice. While his three teammates had off-track incidents, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Marcus Armstrong ended up fifth as the fastest rookie.
The first major incident of the session occurred when 2021 race winner and current NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader Alex Palou spun and made contact with the Turn 14 inside wall, prematurely ending his session.
After spinning in Turn 12, Palou’s teammate and two-time Road America winner Scott Dixon (2017 and 2020-Race 1) collided with 2016 winner Will Power of Team Penske, heavily damaging both cars.

Current points runner-up Marcus Ericsson went off-track in Turn 14 as well but continued on. Herta would spin in Turn 12 too with Meyer Shank Racing’s Simon Pagenaud prompting the end of the session following his own spin in the final corner of the track.
