Practice 1 Results

During the first on-track session of the weekend for Sunday’s Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America, it was Arrow McLaren’s Alexander Rossi leading the way. The 2019 race and 2022 pole winner led the way during Friday afternoon’s 75-minute session to open the weekend.

At the end of the first session on the newly-repaved, 4.048-mile, 14-turn permanent road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the driver of the No. 7 Dallara-Chevrolet notched a best lap of 1m41.7790 (141.978 mph). in second was the Honda of Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports’ David Malukas, who finished the session .0862 of a second back of Rossi’s best time.

Points leader and 2021 Road America winner Alex Palou was third in his Chip Ganassi Racing entry, with teammate Scott Dixon in fourth. Pato O”Ward bookended the Top Five for Arrow McLaren.

Marcus Armstrong continued his impressive rookie campaign with CGR, ending his first practice on the venue in tenth, best of the four drivers making their debut on this course.

In his debut weekend with Ed Carpenter Racing, Ryan Hunter-Reay finished 22nd of 27 cars.

Aside from one brief spin by A.J. Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci, the practice was completed without incident. Now, the focus will turn to practice and qualifying for saturday, as the grid for Sunday’s race will be set.
